Cool installation of chairs? stools? benches? the ChairStoolBench for the premiere of Richard Meier’s recently-completed extension project of the Arp Museum, Germany. The playful reinterpretation of the traditional chair reads as one entity, with the familiar image of the good ol’ wooden chairs emerging and disappearing from a long plank of wood. Visitors are allowed to sit on these artworks.

It will be nice to see these installed as park/street furnitures somewhere.

Have a better look at it from the designer’s website, Yvonne Fehling & Jennie Peiz, right here.

Why is it always so freaking cold when I have tons of work to do?!

to-do list
Things I gotta do within the next 7 days.

It’s raining businessmen and women outside and here I am, as usual, wishing I could sleep a little longer.

Oh well.

On a happier note, we finally had our Week 6 Final Design Presentation done and over with.

My panels for last night’s presentation.

Next up for Studio – Week 9 presentation.

Better start by ticking off my darn To-Do List on the post-its first. Architorture rocks! Really :)

Ciao.

CV08: 10-12April2008

The RAIA had the National Conference, CV08, in the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre last weekend. The Critical Visions conference reflects on form, representation and the culture of globalisation in this intense period of architectural production.

cv08 me
I was there :)

There were a number of talks by Australian and International architects and academics, mostly introducing their works/books and exploring these issues. Well, I attended the talks by Kenneth Frampton (who was on live telecast from Newyork at 1am NY time!) , Brigitte Shim (Shim-Sutcliffe Architects from Toronto), Chris Wilkinson (Wilkinson Eyre Architects from UK), Christoph Ingenhoven (Ingenhoven Architects from Germany), Francine Houben (Mecanoo Architects from the Netherlands), and Michael Hensel (principal researcher in OCEAN)

The jury session for the student competition, the Dialectical Bridge was quite interesting as well. It was chaired by Chris Wilkinson, who is a funny funny man. I enjoy his sarcasm, hahaha.

Oh anyway, these are the beautiful people who were there with me. Rhun Ing spent her birthday at the conference. Davin and Clement came all the way from Melbourne for the competition (they got free ticks!)

Alright, I really need to get back to work. Have to produce 8 A1 boards and a model for our final concept presentation in 4days, wish me luck!

P/s: Its my lovely sister’s birthday today, wish her!

Concept presentation

We had our very first graded presentation of the semester yesterday. That should explain all your MSN messages that I may have not replied :P

concept presentation
So that’s me presenting.

It has always been my second nature to squeeze into awkward, small spaces but err.. I guess I really should stop doing that when I’m presenting! But then again, my arm’s (just a little) shorter than the average arms you get on the streets everyday, so I couldn’t have reached my board otherwise. Hmm, the table should go next time around.

We’re still in our conceptual stages and I think everyone’s doing quite okay. Will prolly blog about the project later when I am less busy. Am still looking for a topic for my Urban Design research essay, anyone know of any cool cities with interesting urban issues?

Thanks guys, for still visiting my blog after its reactivation. I guess that’s all for now! And unfortunately guys and girls, no, I’m not revealing who Archinerd is just yet – not today! :P

Have a good day!

On new beginnings and more

Hi guys, it has been sooo long since I last posted anything. Everyone was already starting to complain about that stadium in the previous entry. Hahahahaha, oh well, here I am again peeps.. Very much alive AND typing! Missed me?

The somewhat-torturous session has obviously ended last year and I have gone home to KL and back again. Tons have happened since then and I guess, for now, it’d be good to just let the bygones be bygones, no? :P

I know I promised at least a dozen of people to update my blog once I arrived back in Sydney but hmm.. *chokes* I really would have if I could have. I moved to my new place a few weeks ago and my internet connection has just been activated. And even now, the connection’s still being annoyingly temperamental. Believe me.

Yeah so, I have recently turned 23 (argh) and I am now a postgraduate student. Uni life’s pretty busy as usual, but it is definitely fulfilling. I am doing a design studio on adaptive reuse with Graham Bell, and we have yet gone past the design concept stage. I’m pretty excited though, I can’t wait to get my hands wet on this.

I went for a little sneak peek at our site during the Easter weekend

Archinerd

…with the Archinerd, muahahaha!

Site visit

And another site visit with the rest of the studiomates, yesterday.

Will update more about this studio later on.

Another happy note, I will be going to Venice for a 3 weeks design studio elective with IUAV this winter! Very, very excited. We’re thinking of extending our stay in somewhere else in Italy for another week, since we’re already gonna be there. Any suggestions, guys? (Secretly hoping to visit Milan!)

Yeah, and some of you were asking what I did for Earth Hour last weekend..? I was playing candlelit-Monopoly at home. What about you?

Alright, I need to be doing some work right now. Will post again soon :)

P/s: Photos were taken with my new wide angled Ixus! Coool, nooooooo?
